Progressive International, a global organization that supports progressive left-wing activists, has moved into cryptocurrency in response to being de-banked from major banks and payment companies.
To defend itself from attempts to block them out of the global financial market, the organization announced Monday that it accepts donations in cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), and took to Twitter to confirm this.
Last week, several companies stopped donations to @progintl’s campaign of solidarity with Cubans and its ambitions to help vaccine the world. We now accept crypto donations to defend ourselves against any attempts to block us from the global financial system. Below are our addresses. pic.twitter.com/YbIwV68M5L

Cointelegraph was told by a spokesperson for Progressive International that PayPal and Dutch ING Bank had blocked donations to the organization. They also stopped their solidarity campaign with Cuba in order to help vaccinate against COVID-19. According to the representative, ING was “acting in support” of the United States embargo.
Last month, the vaccination campaign was announced to highlight Cuba’s progress in developing vaccines for COVID-19. It also hosted a panel of experts to show their achievements.
The representative stated that Progressive International depends on small donations from members of the public to finance its work.
“We are now accepting fiat and cryptocurrencies donations as a defense against any attempts to keep us out of international financial systems. We are grateful to the cryptocurrencies for their donations.
According to the spokesperson, this was the first time the organization has allowed donations in cryptocurrency. The spokesperson stated that they would continue to accept crypto donations to support their work. This includes Cuba. They may also expand to other currencies as needed.
